They are awarded to two full-time undergraduate students enrolled in their third year of Honors in Computer Science or Software Engineering in the university's school of Computer Science. The scholarship is fully funded by Karen Padham Taylor alone and is available to Canadian citizens and International students.

Karen is a Canadian student of Indian descent and graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 2003. The same year, her soon-to-be husband graduated from Stanford with his Master's degree.

Aside from the scholarship for women, Padham has also been active as a supporter of Lafayette Partners in Education.

This is a non-profit organization that helps to expand and enhance educational opportunities in the schools in Lafayette, California.
