At this point in the game, the main character lives with two characters: his sister Lizzie, and an ex-bounty hunter alien called Gene. The main character walks into the house with the two of them arguing.

The argument begins with Lizzie yelling at Gene to clean up the apartment as her boyfriend Tweeg is coming over. Gene, however, makes his distaste for Tweeg apparent.

Throughout the conversation, the main character can support Lizzie or Gene as they argue over her dating Tweeg. Lizzie's point is that Gene doesn't even know nor care about her, and his opinion doesn't matter, while Gene states that he is disgusted by Tweeg's species and does not think Lizzie should be dating him.

It turns out that Tweeg is also an alien, though a different kind than Gene, and according to him Tweeg's species will get pregnant from Lizzie. He goes on to try to set up Lizzie with his nephew.

If the options the main character takes lean more towards either side, Gene's or Lizzie's, then the choices will eventually lead to Lizzie asking that Gene move out. The main character will have to choose which option to take.

However, funnily enough, no matter which option the main character takes, Gene will end up staying. The bottom line is if you side with Gene, then he will be happy, while Lizzie will be mad, but if you side with Gene, he will threaten to take away the Bounty 5000 machine and end up staying either way.

The High on Life boyfriend quest shows while Lizzie is the main character, Gene matters more. Gene makes us bounty hunters in High on Life.

In this quest, it does not matter what choice one makes, as Gene will not leave the house. It doesn't matter what choice the main character makes, Lizzie and Gene will end up working out their differences.

Lizzie is the main character's sister and is introduced in the game as wanting to plan a party before the G3 Cartel invades Earth. Throughout the story, she is seen insulting the main character for not having any life prospects but is eventually revealed to care for the main character as the game goes on.

On the other hand, Gene is an ex-bounty hunter that the main character finds homeless in Blim City. Having lost his legs prior to the start of the game, he is a paraplegic. Gene starts the protagonist's journey as a bounty hunter by offering his bounty hunter suit in exchange for the protagonist's home if he passes away.

Like Lizzie, Gene may be insulting, but shows his concern for the main character as the story progresses. Much of the humor from the game comes from Gene and Lizzie arguing.

It is very easy to get attached to both of these characters in the game, and one of the reasons so many people look for explanations for the High on Life boyfriend gameplay is because it feels like the player themselves are caught in an argument between two friends they deeply care about.
