He has amassed millions of dollars through his fashion label and, his other business ventures. Rick has been in the fashion industry for more than two decades and has been amazing people with his designs.
He was born to his parents, John and Concepción "Connie" Owens, on November 18, 1962. He grew up in California in a conservative Catholic household.
After Owen completed high school, he moved to Los Angles. In Los Angeles, he began to attend Otis College of Art and Design, where he studied art. After two years in Otis, he went to Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where he took the pattern-making and draping courses.
He began to design copies of designer clothing like Versace, Mugler, and Margiela in the garment industry. Owen is bisexual and has been open about it. He is married to his partner, Michèle Lamy, since 2006. Owen has been living a happy married life with her.
He began his career as a fashion designer when he launched his fashion line in 1994. At that time, only one store was operating his fashion line on Hollywood Boulevard.
In 2003, he moved to Paris with his partner, Michèle Lamy. They both worked to set home and atelier inside a building that hold historical value, as the building was the office of the former French President François Mitterrand.
He and Michèle opened the fashion company, Owenscorp in 2004.

Owen did an exhibition of his Prehistoric collection at Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London. He did his first museum exhibition entitled Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman at the Triennale di Milano on December 15, 2017, which included his twenty years of work.
He was not known internationally until the French Vogue publication featured his signature leather jackets worn by Kate Moss. After gaining momentum, he utilized it and did his first runway show, Spring/Summer 2002, at New York Fashion Week with assistance from Anna Wintour and Vogue.
He was awarded by the Council of Fashion Designers of America the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 and the Perry Ellis Award for emerging talent.

Owen was also given the Cooper-Hewitt Design Award for fashion design and the Fashion Group International Rule Breaker Award in 2007.
In 2019 he was able to bag the Menswear Designer of the Year Award given by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards.
