Eugenia Cooney, who at the beginning of her YouTube career looked okay with good body proportions.
But with the passing years, she looked thinner and thinner, which was one of the reasons she got dislikes on her YouTube content.
In 2015 people raised concerns regarding her body as she was soo thin that bone of the rib cage could be seen in her chest. Her body condition created a buzz on the internet, and she was asked if she was suffering from anorexia or any eating disorder.
The YouTuber denied it, and people. Felt that she was not sharing her health with her fans.
On February 10, 2019, she spoke about taking a hiatus and working on her health. She was assessed by medical professionals and went through a month-long treatment program.
She was seen in Shane Dawson's hour-long YouTube video, The Return of Eugenia Cooney, in July 2019. In the video, she confirmed that she was suffering from an eating disorder and was in the recovery process.
The YouTuber shared her experience as traumatizing and said that she was doing better as she was getting treatment. The video got millions of views, and Eugenia was praised for openly discussing health issues with the public.
But the praise didn't remain for long as she was soon criticized again for appearing to relapse.
Controversy Of Eugenia Cooney
Due to her appearance, people started criticizing the content she posted on her YouTube channel.
People thought that her content encouraged eating disorders among viewers, which raised concern about her influence on her young fans. She is also a known figure in online "pro-ana" communities where her videos and images are used as thinspiration.
People were concerned about her drastic weight loss and different theories regarding her weight loss in 2015.
In 2016, some people created a petition on Change.org called Temporarily Ban Eugenia Cooney off YouTube. The petition went viral and got 18,000 signatures in it.
The petition was later removed for violating community guidelines. In regards to the petition, Eugenia denied having a problem and stated that she did not intend to be a bad influence on the people.
Similarly, In 2019 the Youtuber was seen as less active on her Youtube and various social media platforms. Due to this, it created a rumor among her fans that she had passed away. She said she is doing well but will take hiatus from social media and focus on her health by working with her doctor privately.
The YouTuber was also blamed for grooming and predatory behavior of young people by older men on Cooney's Discord in 2020.
A Change.org petition got started by the concerned citizens and YouTubers in early 2021 to age-restrict, or entirely remove, her YouTube channel and social media accounts.
It was done as they claimed that Cooney promoted eating disorders by her appearance.
