NFL: Was Brett Favre In An Accident?
NFL legend Brett Favre was involved in an accident in 1990 that could have taken his life before his professional career even began. The gunslinger from Mississippi went on to have a highly successful professional career, one which could have been halted very early.
During his college senior year at Southern Miss, Favre was involved in a near-fatal car crash. On July 14, 1990, when going around a bend near his parents' house, Favre lost control of his car, which flipped thrice and hit a tree.
Favre was rescued by his brother Scott, who smashed the car window with a golf club. The medical personnel soon came and rushed him to the hospital. Favre recalls that all he thought on the way to the emergency was, "Will I be able to play football again?"
And return he did, less than two weeks after the near-death crash, on September 8, Favre led Southern Miss to a comeback victory against Alabama. His return was regarded as one of the most powerful moments in college football history and it instantly made him a larger-than-life character.
Due to the accident, Favre had multiple injuries, including a hematoma to his liver, a severely bruised left arm, a deep cut on his left knee, a bruised vertebra, and one giant bruise covering the right side of his body.
The injury forced the doctors to remove 30 inches of the then 20-year-old amateur football player Brett Favre. He went on to have a Pro Football Hall of Fame career with numerous accolades to his name.
