Who Is Thenjiwe Griffiths Aka Mamthembu? Woman Acquitted Of Murdering Husband Alan Griffiths

Thenjiwe Griffiths Aka Mamthembu spent the jail time for 2.5 years until she was acquitted and free to go from the court. She was initially charged with 15 years of jail time.

Griffiths' conviction was founded on hearsay and circumstantial evidence that she killed him for his money.

It was bolstered by the fact that she was 35 years younger than Allan at the time of his murder. Griffith claimed that their car had been taken, and she had managed to flee.

The 32-year-old unemployed woman was found guilty of murder in the Pietermaritzburg High Court and sentenced to life imprisonment in jail.

Allan Griffiths, a 60-year-old retired Richards Bay engineer, was murdered in 2006. Throughout the trial, Thenjiwe, who was 25 at the time, maintained her innocence.

In April 2005, Thenjiwe and Griffiths married after meeting at a club where prostitutes advertised for business.

A historic win was registered for Thenjiwe Griffiths for getting acquitted after being released on the murder of her husband.

On January 20, 2006, Allan Griffiths, who had an alcohol problem, was found strangled in the long grass adjacent to a district road in the Colenso region.

He resided in Richards Bay at the time of his marriage to Griffiths. Carolyn Riddle, his sister, had reported him missing to the police.

The judge agreed that Thenjiwe Griffiths led police to the body and found that she was engaged in the murder.

Later, the judicial body dismissed her claim that she and her late husband were the victims of a hijacking from which she managed to flee.

Griffiths was sentenced to life in prison for robbery with aggravating circumstances. Thenjiwe was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Her bail was canceled, and she was arrested. Griffiths was given leave to appeal her convictions by the Pietermaritzburg High Court in May 2015. However, she was denied bail.

She was let go free by turning down the conviction of the honorable court of South Africa in April 2017.
