Susan Dunklee was born to her parents in the town of Barton, Vermont. Her father Star Dunklee is a former NCAA cross-country skiing champion. He competed at the 1976 and 1980 Winter Olympics. On the other hand, Internet has no information on her mother's identity.
Meanwhile, her uncle Everett Dunklee competed in cross-country skiing at the 1972 Winter Olympics. She herself entered cross-country competitions at the age of seven. During her senior years at Dartmouth College, Dunklee took up a biathlon.
