While the Premier League pondered on the £300 million plan by financial 'fixer' Amanda Staveley and her PCP Capital Partners group, California-based media billionaire Mauriss has been waiting in the wings with a rival bid.

Staveley intended to gain Premier League clearance with the help of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and property entrepreneurs Simon and David Reuben.

Mauriss's bid to buy the team showed that he is a billionaire. According to Athletic, despite multiple attempts to discuss the sale, it did not go through because then-owner Mike Ashley was baffled by the slow pace of the intended purchase.

He is currently the CEO of Clear TV Media, a company that broadcasts to over 85 million people in airports, hospitals, and other locations outside of the home.

Mauriss created the company in 2014 after founding Credit America Corporation, a credit card company that he founded in 1998. The businessman appears to be a sports aficionado who enjoys Major League Baseball and is apparently a Tottenham Hotspur supporter.

Staveley's Saudi financiers pulled the plug on the enterprise, which was troubled by escalating troubles and deemed too dangerous for the Premier League to sanction, dealing a crushing blow to hopeful Geordie supporters.

As a result, Henry Mauriss is in a better position to pursue his own goals. During his time as CEO of Credit America Corporation, he handled over $7 billion in trades and offered £50 million more for Newcastle than the Saudi consortium-only for Ashley to get unhappy with the deal's glacial pace.
