Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was born to a Muslim convert father Yaha and a Christian mother, Mary.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is an American actor who was born on July 15, 1986. In the DC Extended Universe Aquaman movie, he played David Kane, the Black Manta, and Bobby Seale in the Netflix historical courtroom drama The Trial of the Chicago 7. 

He earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Cal Abar in the HBO limited series Watchmen.

Likewise, he also appeared in The Handmaid's Tale and Black Mirror. In addition, he portrayed Morpheus and Agent Smith in The Matrix Resurrections.

Yahya made his debut in the entertainment sector himself in the 2012 short film Crescendo. He currently has 21 acting credits listed on his IMDb page.

Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, 35, grew up in New Orleans' Magnolia Projects before moving to Oakland, California, where he attended McClymonds High School. 

He was an athlete at McClymonds (he played against future NFL champion Marshawn Lynch) and a self-described geek who adored chess. Similarly, he graduated from Yale with a Master of Fine Arts degree and worked as a stage actor.

The actor attended theatrical class at the University of California, Berkeley, as a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. That is where he competed as a hurdler for the California Golden Bears and the class helped him overcome his stutter.

Additionally, he earned a degree in architecture before working as a city planner in San Francisco. Later on, after losing his job, he took advantage of the opportunity to apply to drama schools, and he was accepted by several reputed Universities including Yale School of Drama.

Explaining that his father grew up and died with a desire to know where his father's father came from and about his background. 

His father was of West Indian descent, although the country of origin is unknown.
