Who Is Labor Candidate Sally Sitou? Fiona Martin Accused Of Confusing With Asian-Australian

Sally Sitou is the Australian Labor Party candidate for the federal seat of Reid. 

According to her bio in ALP, she is a doctoral researcher at the University of Sydney Business School who focuses primarily on the finance industry. Before her Ph.D., she spent over a decade in the international education and development sectors.

Sally was a communications advisor at the Univesity of Sydney. Moreover, she has been a part of the Steering Committee of the Chinese Australian Forum since 2019. 

The political candidate is a married woman currently living in Homebush with her husband, Rui, and son, Max.

She is active on social media, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Her recent posts are about how her opposition, Fiona Martin. 

Sally Sitou made several accusations against her opposition Fiona Martin.

The heated exchange between the two happened in a debate on 2GB radio. The Liberal MP referenced Kristina Keneally winning preselection over Vietnamese Australian lawyer Tu Le in Flower and claimed she kicked Sally out.

I'm disappointed that Fiona Martin is doubling down on her accusations about me. Campaigns are stressful and she made a mistake. I’d just like her to apologise for mistaking me for a different person. The people of Reid deserve better than this.

After the debate between the two, Sally later tweeted that Fiona was making things up. Likewise, she wrote about how she never had plans to run for Flower.

And finally, she accused her of deliberately misleading voters or confusing her with another Asian Australian. 

In response to this drama, Senate leader of the Australian Labor Party, Penny Wong, questioned how it was happening in 2022. Likewise, Fiona denied the accusations, commenting to Guardian Australia.

Furthermore, the Liberal MP mentioned how Sally had less than three years of association with Ried. She also quoted the news reports from 2018 and suggested that the Labor candidate could run for Cabramatta.

Sally Sitou, the daughter of Chinese immigrants, is from Cabramatta, Australia.

Her parents fled Laos after the Vietnam war. In the heated exchange between her and Fiona Martin, the two debated their roots. 

The Liberal Party politician said that she grew up in Reid and went to school at Five Dock and Strathfield. But now, her home is in Ryde, a neighboring electorate of Bennelong.

As for Sally, she grew up in Cabramatta and currently lives in Homebush with her family. While debating, she said her love for that community is why she lives there. 

To counter it, Marin alleged that the Labour Party candidate only moved to Reid because she found an opportunity and couldn't run in Flower.
