Who Is Dick Caine? Former Olympic Swimming Coach Arrested Over Sexual Assault

Dick Caine is a former Olympic swimming coach from Australia who was arrested over sexual assault charges on June 22, 2022.

Caine has been one of the most renowned swimming coaches in Australia. He has trained some famous, successful athletes, such as former Olympic gold medalist Michelle Ford and silver medalist Michellie Jones.

Also, Caine has coached Olympian Janelle Elford, long-distance swimmer Suzie Maroney, triathletes Greg Welch and Chris McCormack, and Wallaby Phil Kearns.

After being attested from his residence in Condell Park by the police, he was denied bail and is set to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday. He is currently being held in Bankstown Police Station.

In January 2021, police received information about multiple sexual assaults of teenage girls and began investigating. The incident allegedly occurred at a swimming school at Carss Park in the 1970s.

Later, police discovered another victim from the same swimming school in the 1970s. The second girl was also a teenager during the time of the incident. Allegedly, Caine had assaulted the girls on multiple occasions in the 1970s while they were under his guidance in the swimming school.

In a press release regarding the arrest, Police urged the victims of sexual abuse in the community to come forward, and the lines of inquiry remain open.

Dick Caine is currently 76 years old. He was recently arrested from his Condell Park residence following a sexual assault allegation.

During the assault, Caine was apparently in his early 30s. The police are currently holding him over the allegations of indecent and sexual misconduct with teenage girls.

A video of the arrest was released by the police in which he is shown to comply with the law officers. He is escorted from his house into a car and brought to the Bankstown Police Station. He is currently being charged with nine offenses of sexual abuse.
