Who Is Ben Amarfio?
Following Ben Amarfio's resignation, which was the latest stone to fall in a year of turmoil for the club, North Melbourne has started looking for a new chief executive.
Carl Dilena, who had served in the role for seven years, was replaced in the top position by Amarfio in late 2019. As the season progressed, the former Cricket Australia executive came under intense strain, which prompted a thorough club evaluation conducted by seasoned football administrator Geoff Walsh.
Coach David Noble was fired as a result, and Alastair Clarkson, a four-time Hawthorn premiership coach, took his place. It was time for a change, Amarfio told the club's board on Friday.
He wanted Clarkson, the new head of the football department, Todd Viney, and the president, Sonja Hood, to have "clean air." He will hold the position through October 31.
They have undergone a significant rebuilding and dramatic turnover on the field. Our AFL program's turnaround has been incredibly difficult.
They didn't do as well as they had anticipated in year two of their rebuild, and they weren't as competitive.
As CEO, he is ultimately responsible for that, and he regrets that they disappointed their members and supporters this year and fell short of expectations.
