At least one gunshot was fired at Peery, and at least one round was fired back by the cops. According to the sheriff's office, the officials issued a shelter-in-place order in the vicinity of Widefield High School following the incident. John Paz, the prime suspect, is wanted in connection with it.

According to Fox31, El Paso County Sheriff Deputy Andrew Peery lost his life in the line of duty on Sunday evening. Around 8 p.m., EPCS said that Peery got killed in the line of duty. 

El Paso County Sheriff Bill Elder announced the death of a deputy killed in the line of duty on Sunday. Speaking with UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central reporters, Elder identified the fallen deputy as Andrew Peery at 39.

Koaa news reported that the culprit killed the police while responding to a shooting in the 500 block of Ponderosa Drive in Security. Elder said Peery and another deputy arrived almost simultaneously with a Fountain police officer and immediately met with gunfire.

ESPO notified the public of a significant police presence in the Ponderosa Dr. and Grand Blvd. area concerning the shooting. Residents were instructed to secure their homes and stay indoors and away from the windows and doors.

A procession for the fallen officer began at 8:30 p.m. local time from UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs. Before moving to the Coroner's Office via I-25, the procession went to Nevada St. past the Sheriff's Office on Vermijo Ave.

After the death of the offices, condolences showered from his colleagues and friends.
