After 11 seasons of playing Detective Amanda Rollins on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Kelli Giddish announced she is leaving the show.

Giddish is an American stage, film, and, most prominently, television actress.

Besides her role as Detective Rollins, she is known for playing Di Henry on All My Children, an ABC soap opera, Doctor Kate McGinn in Pet Life, a Fox crime drama, and Annie Nolan Frost in Chase, an NBC crime drama.

Giddish is native to the state of Georgia, where she was born to Charles and Nita Giddish in the city of Cumming. The actress also has a brother named Eli.

The future SVU actress has stated that both her paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother supported her interests, with the former often taking to the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

Her interests would only deepen in high school, where young Giddish would become very involved with her local drama teacher, Yatesy Harvey, who was also a friend of her mother's and ran a community theater.

Giddish would spend much of her young life in plays put on by Harvey and also participate in sleepover drama camps. In college, Giddish majored in theatre performance.

Soon after graduating from the University of Evansville in Indiana, with the full support of her family for her acting, Giddish moved to New York City and appeared in a play on Broadway within a year of her arrival.

Is Kelli Giddish Leaving SVU -Where Is She Going?

Kelli Giddish recently addressed rumors of her leaving SVU by confirming them on her most recent Instagram post.

Giddish, who first debuted in the police procedural show in its 13th-season premiere, became one of the most popular characters in the history of the show.

SVU is a show with a long history. It has been on air since September 20, 1999, and has gone on for 23 seasons. Its 24th season will start premiering on September 22, 2022.

This 24th season will be Giddish's last season with the show, and she will close out her career after 12 seasons. SVU, due to the nature of its length, has had many actors leave and characters be written off.

In fact, Giddish came on board after the main actor of the first 12 seasons, Christopher Meloni, left, and he's not the only one. Characters come and go, and the show fans have a lot of fun speculating who will leave.

Still, Giddish's departure has saddened many fans who especially loved her portrayal of Amanda Rollins as they watched a character grow from a newbie to a respected professional in front of their eyes.

As Giddish is set to star in the 24th season of SVU, which hasn't aired yet, the actress hasn't talked much about her plans after the show.

As mentioned above, actors come and go from SVU frequently. The only actor who has been in every show season is Mariska Hargitay, and following behind her is Ice-T, who has been in every season except the first one.

Besides Hargitay and Ice-T, most other actors have either been in a couple of seasons or gained prominence in the show's latter half.

Even Danny Pino, who made his debut alongside Giddish, only worked in the show for four seasons. The reason for such actor turnover is nothing against the show; it's just the nature of a long-running television series.

Following the news of her departure, many of her fellow cast members, people who worked in the show, and fans have expressed their sadness.
