Waite was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head, according to an autopsy.
The testimony was heard by B.C. Supreme Court Justice Kathleen Ker as Ryan Grantham's sentence submissions began on June 13.
Grantham was also said to have considered mass killings, including one at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, according to Ker. Grantham sat in his car with a shotgun at SFU on March 5, 2020.
Before he is eligible for release, the Crown wants him to serve 17 to 19 years in prison.
During the hearing, Grantham sat silently in the prisoner's box, his lawyer occasionally showing him visual evidence that he scarcely looked at.
He was bowed, his head in his hands, while videos from before and after the crime were shown. As his video narration was heard, he was not looking at the various courtroom displays.
