According to the Old Bailey, Ruth Neave, his mother, was found not guilty of his murder but of child maltreatment. Thus she received a sentence of seven years in prison for that crime.
Rikki Neave's mother rejected that she grabbed him around the neck as a punishment for being naughty, in her statements.
According to juniors, Rikki was shut out of the house in his pajamas when he was three years and nine months old. Neave then allegedly wrapped her son's neck around his neck in front of cops until he turned red in the face.

Ms. Neave allegedly thumped Rikki with such force that he flew out the door during a visit to a pharmacy. She is also accused of holding Rikki upside down on a bridge while he cries.
Likewise, Ms. Dempster said she also seized Rikki by the throat, pressed him against a wall, and raised him to the point that his feet were about a foot off the ground.
After Rikki called her a slag, Ms. Dempster related an event in August 1994 in which the witness lost her anger.
Juniors heard that Ms. Neave allegedly threatened to kill Rikki a month before his disappearance after requesting sweets at newsagents.
It was also stated that Ms. Neave scribbled "idiot" on Rikki's forehead, claiming it was a French word.
